I have now added a link to 101 athletes previously banned at the foot of the page.

Following the decision of the IOC to not allow any Russians to complete in the Rio Olympics who had previously served a drugs ban, I thought I’d have a look for any obvious ex-dopers on other Olympic teams.  From a first skim through a few sports I know reasonably well there are a good handful here. This shows the difficulty the IOC will face in the court should any athlete challenges them, as there is precident to allow some entries.  As per the comment on my previous blog I would also have supported this regulation if applied universally, what makes it difficult is singling out one country.

Team GB Christine Ohuruogu (athletics)

Team USA Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay, LaShawn Merritt (athletics)

Jamaica Yohan Blake, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Veronica Campbell-Brown (cleared on appeal) (all athletics)

Italy Damiana Coruso (cycling)

Spain Alejandro valverde (cycling)

Portugal Rui Costa (cycling)

Luxembourg Frank Schleck (cycling)

Then there is the issue of non-compliant countries such as Kenya….

I was passed the following link which has details of 101 athletes competing at Rio who have served suspensions, so rather than copy it please go to their page:

Enjoy the games!
