It is great to get the student view on what is going on and is something we have been listening to a lot to try and work out how to move into next year and beyond!I completely agree with regards the 'real world' jobs (although I do think university is part of the real world!).

This is an interesting summary. I think if anything the pandemic has made me realise just how much teaching and learning can be optimised and adapted to benefit everyone. As a student who has studied at undergraduate level both before and during the pandemic, I’ve actually enjoyed studying a lot more this year. I think allowing students to do their own preparation before live sessions, then using contact hours each week to actually go through some problems and have discussion/debate has been more beneficial than simply turning up to a live lecture once a week. I’d therefore say something closer to flipped learning is the way to go. I might be slightly bias because some of the lectures I went to pre-pandemic were quite traditional/old fashioned, with minimal interaction and some lecturers even using “chalk and talk” rather than PowerPoint presentations which are definitely more standard these days!

I agree with what you’ve said about different types of assessment, that’s especially true with science. I think specifically for science, the most important thing is that assessment tests students’ ability to research, solve problems and communicate knowledge. In the real world as a scientist, you’re going to be presented with new problems that you haven’t come across before and being able to solve these problems and communicate your knowledge effectively is a fundamental part of most scientific jobs!

In reply to Christiaan Bartlett. Thanks Christiaan, I agree it is a real thing, it looks like China and Mexico have a particular issue, amongst others. It looks like they went for a blanket 1 ng/mL threshold for these retested samples. Will link to Wada press release when at home!

The contaminated meat causing clenbuterol positives is a real thing:

but as you say this exoneration maybe only possible because players were tested several times over a short period rather than having a single sample in isolation.
Also possible in China? Be careful what you eat!
