It is indeed tragic. There are probably more of these types of deaths than I know about, when you think that a lot of people holiday in mobile or static caravans or camper vans. These generally have gas stoves which are probably not checked over as often as they should be. A holiday CO meter would be a good idea to include on your packing list. The alarms are relatively cheap now days so the peace of mind is probably worth it. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

I also think that it wouldn’t be a bad idea for holiday makers to take their own CO detectors with them in their suitcase – it would take a change in culture, but that’s not impossible. A few years ago, people didn’t pack high factor suntan cream – just a bottle of baby oil and some silver foil to max the tan… but that’s thankfully changed now due to widespread public awareness of skin cancer.
